As the 2021–2026 political term concludes, we look at the impact of the interventions of the Ministry of Teso Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister over the last five years.
Under the political leadership of the Minister of State, Hon. Clement Kenneth Ongalo Obote, the Ministry has executed projects which have improved public infrastructure and strengthened household incomes.
These interventions have also improved access to education, healthcare, and water, as well as eased movement and promoted environmental conservation. But these projects are exclusive of those implemented by other ministries, departments and agencies of government.
In the education sector, the Ministry constructed classroom blocks and sanitation facilities at several schools, improving the teaching and learning environment for learners and teachers, respectively.
Some of the beneficiary schools include Kachonga Primary School and Kalaki-Katiti Seed Secondary School in Bukedea and Kalaki District, respectively. Other schools have been constructed in Kaberamaido and Kapelebyong Districts and Soroti City.
In the health sector, the Ministry facilitated the procurement of ambulances for Kachumbala Health Centre IV in Bukedea District, Kalaki Health Centre IV in Kalaki District and Katakwi District General Hospital.
Additionally, the Ministry supported the installation of an X-ray machine at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital to improve diagnostic services in the region.
Meanwhile, the construction of boreholes in Ogwolo Sub-county in Kalaki District and Otipe in Kumi Municipality boosted access to safe and clean water.
The rehabilitation and improvement of roads, including Abalang–Idamakan–Surambaya–Imatomua Road and Bululu–Ipenet–Oleo Road in Kalaki District, as well as Kobulubulu–Okile Road in Kaberamaido District, have greatly improved connectivity.
In terms of environmental conservation, the Ministry planted 2.4 acres of Melina, Teak, and improved Muvule trees in Omid Parish in Kalaki District. It also planted pine trees at Kalaki District headquarters.
Several micro-projects, such as the Onyongo Women Cattle Rearing Group in Ogolai Parish, Amuria District, and the Nabwali Goat Rearing project in Kapunyansi Parish, Butebo District, were supported. Finally, the Ministry provided iron sheets to Kumi Police Station.
